A lot goes into a web design project. First the client brief and Discovery Phase would include points like
Site subject- we find out a lot with this one, since we have an idea what similar sites in the same niche and genre require
Number of pages and what will be on them . . . number of words and images. If this is not laid out, a client can want 3000 words and 20 images. Time is money in every movement and action. If clients don’t create text, copy writing will be extra.
Functions like a forum or a booking app need to be discussed, for design editing and configuration of the app
Design work- I have spent more time just on Photoshop and searching for just the right graphics and images, than the actual construction of pages and wire-framing.
Number of revisions - This is a crucial part because even though we hit the mark with the draft, (I am a good listener) there are always requested tweaks. So one does not need to charge extra, the designer should include a set amount of revisions in the flat fee. It helps clients to gain trust in the company.
SEO & promotion - Many new site owners think once it’s on the web they will get visitors the next day. The site needs to have proper keyword research, then marketing through a variety of channels. SEO work and marketing are completely separate services to the website design and construction but necessary for site success and being found on the web.
After determining the scope of the project and all work to be done, the flat fee can be generated. I sometimes use my own templates, ($299 with customization), sometimes recycle from an existing framework, ($699 with customization), and sometimes create from scratch ($1299). Adding a store is extra and each product loading is extra.
I generally do a 50% deposit (if you choose to go via Payoneer) and two subsequent phases with milestone payments. Once that is all done, the site is transferred and we guide you how to do the domain connection to get the site live on the web. Wix does offer free hosting with a Wix domain however the free sites don’t get indexed by search engines to be found in searches, so connecting a Top Level Domain is of importance.
